Voice detection
Let VerseLuma listen to the preacher and prepare each passage as it is mentioned — set up the microphone, choose how it goes live, and handle corrections.
With voice detection on, VerseLuma listens to the preacher. When it hears a reference such as “turn with me to Romans chapter eight, verse twenty-eight”, the passage is ready on Preview — or live, if you choose. Speech is recognised on this computer; no audio is sent anywhere.
Set up the microphone
- Get the preacher's sound into the computer. The best source is an aux or record output from the sound desk into the computer's line-in or a USB audio interface. A USB microphone near a speaker also works.
- In the Scripture tab, open Audio input and choose that input.
- Click Test and ask someone to speak. The Level bar should move well into the middle when they talk.
- Leave Recognition engine on Bible words only (recommended). Full transcript writes down everything said but is slower and less accurate at catching references.
TipA clean feed from the sound desk is much more reliable than a room microphone: there is no echo, music or congregation noise.
Start listening
Click Start listening in the Scripture tab. The badge changes from Stopped to listening, and what VerseLuma hears appears under Heard. Click again to stop.
When a passage is detected
| Setting | What happens | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Wait for me to send it live | The passage goes to Preview. You check it and press Enter. | Most churches — you stay in control. |
| Send live after 5 seconds | A countdown runs on Preview; press Esc to cancel it. | A confident operator who wants speed. |
| Send live immediately | The passage goes straight to the projector. | Small services without an operator. |
How sure VerseLuma is
Every reference gets a confidence score. Clear references (“John chapter three verse sixteen”) follow your setting above. Unsure ones — a book name that sounds like another, or no verse number — only go to Preview, whatever the setting. Very unsure ones are ignored.
The Heard card over the monitors shows the reference, how sure VerseLuma is, and why — for example “book name unclear” or “no verse number”. If it heard the wrong passage, click Search on the card: Scripture search opens with what was heard, ready for you to correct.
If the preacher corrects themselves — “no, Romans chapter eight” or “I mean verse seventeen” — VerseLuma replaces what it just showed.
Detection log
Click Detection log… under the recent detections to see every reference VerseLuma heard, how sure it was, what it did and why. Click Show beside an ignored one to use it anyway. Use Copy to send the log to support.
Auto-follow
Press Auto-follow under the Live monitor and VerseLuma moves the slides on by itself as the passage is read aloud or a song is sung. It works while listening is on; press it again to stop.
Tips for good results
- Ask preachers to say “chapter” and “verse” — it makes references unmistakable.
- Keep the input level healthy: too quiet and words are missed, too loud and they distort.
- For books that sound alike (Philippians and Philemon, John and Joel), VerseLuma uses the passage already on screen and the books used earlier in the service to decide.
