Troubleshooting
Fixes for the problems churches meet most: screens, sound, voice detection, phones, OBS, NDI and data.
Screens
The projector opens on my laptop screen
Press Win + P and choose Extend. Then open Screens, click Identify screens, and choose the projector's number under Projector.
The congregation can see my operator window
Windows is set to Duplicate. Press Win + P and choose Extend.
The text is cut off or too small on the projector
Set the projector to its native resolution in Windows display settings, with scaling at 100%. In Design, turn on Show the safe margin on the monitors and check the Max lines per slide setting.
The words are hard to read on a picture background
Turn on Adaptive Readability in Design, or raise Darken pictures and videos. The badge on each monitor tells you when a slide is hard to read.
Voice detection
VerseLuma does not hear anything
Open Audio input in the Scripture tab, choose the right input and press Test. If the level bar does not move, check the cable and that Windows allows apps to use the microphone (Settings → Privacy & security → Microphone). Click Refresh after plugging in a new device.
It hears the preacher but misses references
Use a clean feed from the sound desk rather than a room microphone, keep the level in the middle of the bar, and make sure Recognition engine is Bible words only. Open the Detection log to see what was heard and why something was ignored.
It picked the wrong book
Unsure references only go to Preview, so check before pressing Enter. The preacher can correct themselves aloud (“I mean Romans”), and VerseLuma replaces what it showed.
Phones and remote
Phones cannot open the page
The phone must be on the same Wi-Fi as the computer. When Windows asks, allow VerseLuma on Private networks. Some guest Wi-Fi networks block devices from seeing each other — use the church's main network.
The remote says the PIN is wrong
Check the PIN in Phones & livestream. After several wrong tries the phone is locked out for a short time; wait and try again.
Livestream
The NDI source does not appear in vMix or OBS
Install the NDI Runtime on this computer (and DistroAV in OBS). Both computers must be on the same network; allow VerseLuma and your streaming software through the Windows firewall on private networks. The NDI status line in Lower thirds shows how many receivers are connected.
The chroma key leaves green edges or removes my colours
Use NDI or the Browser source instead — both have real transparency. If you must key, pick a key colour that is not in your design; Lower thirds warns when a colour is too close to the key colour.
The caption does not change with the projector
Check that Scripture and lyric captions is set to Follow the live slide automatically, and that the caption is shown (G). In “Wait in Preview” mode, press T to take each new caption.
Updates
- “Background update is not available” — open the Microsoft Store, go to Library and click Get updates. Copies installed from a zip file always update through the Store page.
- The handout will not open on a phone — the phone must be on the same Wi-Fi as the VerseLuma computer, and sharing must be on in Phones.
Data
My songs are missing after installing from the Microsoft Store
The Store version keeps its own data. Make a backup in the old version and restore it in the new one — see Backups.
The computer crashed during the service
Open VerseLuma again — it brings back the service and the live slide automatically.
